66 NORTH ALLEGHENY FALL SPORTS PREVIEW
PREVIEW
CHEERLEADING
North Allegheny competitive cheerleading returned for the second season after a brief hiatus and made significant improvements in
the 2022 season. The Tigers finished in fourth place at the WPIAL Championships, fifth place in the state championships and qualified for the national championship in Orlando, Florida. It was the first time anyone on the current competitive cheer roster had been to states or nationals.
Top returnees for the 2023 Competitive Cheerleading squad include captains Mackenzie Volpe and Emma Flanders. North Allegheny has also done a great job of building up the younger programs as they now have a JV competition team and a middle school competition team to give the girls competitive experience before they get to the varsity level.
Some younger girls that could make an impact this year are sopho- mores Alyssa Coy and Avery Wilson, who are excellent flyers. Kaitlyn Wheeler, Morgan Ulmer and Ava Levkulich are strong at the base for the team.
