  2008 COLLEGE STATION REGIONAL
While they would eventually drop both games in the College Station Regional, the 2008 season served as a milestone for the program and acted as a launching point for future teams.
Dallas Baptist University Head Baseball Coach, Dan Heefner, was named the 2008 ABCA Midwest Baseball Coach of the Year and was also tabbed the NCAA Division I Independent Coach of the Year.
Senior Tyson Bagley, junior Trevor Head, and sophomore Ryan Goins were each named First Team All-Independent. Bagley, who was also named to the All-Independent Academic Team, was the Patriots closer during the 2008 campaign and finished the season with a 2.56 ERA, 56 strikeouts, and 11 saves in 38.2 innings of work. Head and Goins were rock steady in the Patriots’ infield, with Goins
hitting .357, with 10 home runs, and 44 RBI, while Head finished his season with a .329 average, a team high 16 home runs, and 55 RBI.
DBU also placed four players to the Second Team, including senior Nick Santos, juniors Evan Bigley and Jordan Meaker, and freshman Chris Haney. Santos led the team in hitting with a .390 batting average; he also had six homer uns and 38 RBI. Bigley, who started every game in centerfield for the Patriots, hit .333, with 13 home runs, and 58 RBI, while Meaker and Haney played a key part in the DBU’s pitching staff. Meaker was the Patriots’ ace, finishing his campaign with a 7-1 record, a 4.19 ERA, and 62 strikeouts in 88.0 innings of work. Haney, who was the setup man for Bagley, secured several victories for the Patriots by pitching his way to a 6-5 record, a 2.64 ERA, three saves, and 47 strikeouts, in 47.2 innings.
  DBU was featured in USA Today as the Patriots reached their first-ever NCAA Regional.
