2022-2023 WPIAL Champions, 2022-2023 PIAA Quarterfinalists
The North Allegheny girls basketball team won its third WPIAL championship in four years during the 2022-2023 season and reached the state quarterfinals for the second time in three years.
After a back-and-forth start to the season, the Lady Tigers ripped off 12 wins in 13 games
before falling to eventual 5A WPIAL champion South Fayette in the penultimate game of the regular season.
The Lady Tigers rolled through the WPIAL quarterfinals with a blowout of Pine-Richland. Then in the third meeting against Norwin in the WPIAL semifinals, the Tigers rallied from a 10-point deficit in the second half to earn a trip to the WPIAL Championship with a 38- 36 victory.
In the WPIAL championship game, the Tigers made quick work of Upper St. Clair as they jumped out to double digit lead by halftime and rolled to a 71-45 triumph. Pitt-commit Jasmine Timmerson netted a career-high 30 points in the win.
After rolling through the first two rounds of the state tournament it was time for the fourth meeting of the year with Norwin, a game the Knights would win this time, 50-30.
By season’s end, Timmerson earned the WPIAL Class 6A Player of the Year award and head coach Spencer Stefko was named the Trib HSSN WPIAL Class 6A Coach of the Year.
