2022 WPIAL Finalists, PIAA Quarterfinalists
The North Allegheny girls’ tennis team went 15-4 during the 2022 season and reached the WPIAL Championship for the first time since 2018. The Tigers also qualified for the PIAA playoffs.
The Lady Tigers won their first five matches to start the year and finished the regular season with a 10-2 record.
North Allegheny took down Kiski Area, Franklin Regional and Shady Side Academy to qualify for the WPIAL Championship game. In the title tilt, the Tigers fell to Mt. Lebanon, 4-1.
The Tigers were dominant in the first round of the state playoffs, defeating Fairview, 5-0.
NA ultimately fell to Unionville in the PIAA quarterfinals, 4-1, but the season was overall a success and statistically was the best season the girls’ tennis team has had since their WPIAL Championship team in 2018.
Individually, junior Sara Fernandez won the section singles title and qualified for the state tournament. Seniors Emily Wincko and Abbey Swirsding teamed up to claim the section doubles crown. The NA tandem also earned WPIAL silver and reached the PIAA quarterfinals in doubles competition.
