A year after graduating nine se- niors, a young roster hit the field for the Patriots in 2024, but that did not stop them from extend- ing a playoff appearance streak to 16 seasons, tied for the longest streak on campus.
A challenging non-league slate
meant that the Patriots needed strong performances in league play, and they got what they needed, especially in a 4-2 victory over Freedom that split the regular season
series with the Falcons and resulted in both teams tying for second place in the BVAL standings. In that game, sophomore Shyanne Aragon
went the distance in the circle while junior Amaya Gilmore provided three hits, two RBI and a stolen base, complemented by two hits each from Mikaela Mortimer and Brooklynn Galloway.
Heritage’s non-league slate was highlighted by a win over eventual playoff team Rancho Cotate and a heart-breaking one-run loss to 30-game winner and Nevada 5A North runner-up Spanish Springs. The Patriots also showed their potential with a narrow loss to eventual NCS Division 3 champion and NorCal qualifier Cardinal Newman. As Heritage matured and found its footing throughout the league season, its playoff draw turned out to be the most difficult in the region, facing eventual NCS Division 1 and NorCal Division 1 champion Amador Valley in the first round.
