There are no sure things in sports, but the Heritage baseball team competing for a league title and reaching the section quar- terfinals sure feels like something along those lines after another successful season in 2024.
The Patriots won their first seven
league games to clinch the out- right BVAL title, making it back-to-back crowns for Heritage, and then
defeated Pittsburg in the first round of the NCS Division 1 playoffs to reach the quarterfinals for the sixth time in the last seven post-seasons. Along the way, the Patriots reached 20 wins for the seventh time in program history and defeated three eventual league champions during non-league play.
Back-to-back shutout wins in late March capped an eight-game win streak and early April featured a third-place finish at the Service Cham- pions Classic, defeating NorCal qualifier San Marin in the final game of that tournament. The win over the Mustangs started another eight- game win streak, one which would ultimately wrap up the Bay Valley Athletic League title for the 10th time.
During the league season, Heritage outscored BVAL opponents 50-17, and the win over Pittsburg in the section playoffs marked the third
win of the season over a Pirates team which also won 20 games and finished in second place behind the Patriots during league play. And while the team was able to dominate when it should, it also played well in close games, going 3-1 in extra-inning contests and one-run games.
