It takes a lot to refer to a season as historic, but that’s exactly what the 2024 Bay Valley Athletic League season was for the Heritage girls soccer program.
For the first time in school history, the Patriots posted a perfect 10-0 mark in league play, first clinching the outright league title with a
5-0 win over defending champion Freedom before wrapping up the perfect BVAL campaign with a 1-0 victory over Liberty to conclude the regular season. Junior Baylee Gregerson had the game-winning goal against the Lions, while senior keeper Cate Toal posted six straight clean sheets to finish league play and allowed just one goal in all 10 BVAL matches.
The perfect run through league play was also part of a 12-match unbeaten streak to end the regular season, as Heritage also tied eventual NCS Division 1 quarterfinalist Berkeley and beat Livermore in its final two matches before the start of BVAL action.
For the season, Gregerson led the way with 17 goals and four assists, while senior Jasmine Staples added nine goals and freshman Brynn Faulkner tallied eight goals to go with three assists. Sophomore Chantal Esquivias contributed another six goals, while junior Isabella Tognolini controlled the field and added four goals to go with
four assists.
