WRESTLING
It had been a few years since the Heritage wrestling program had been considered a threat to anyone in the Bay Valley Athletic League, but that changed in 2024 with a new coaching staff and a new approach on the mat.
With new head coaches Eric Krimm leading the boys and Shannon Yancey leading the girls, the Patriots won over half their dual meets during league action, and then proceeded to place second at the BVAL Championships, advancing a school-record 21 wrestlers to the North Coast Section tournaments for the boys and girls.
Leading the way was senior Jesse Briggs, who capped his career with a strong run to close the season. Briggs was Heritage’s lone BVAL champion, placing first in the 165-pound weight class. He then placed second at the NCS Championships, falling in double overtime in the title match, before winning two matches at the state tournament. The Patriot boys sent seven wrestlers into BVAL championship matches, with Ian Blank, Osiris Dossey, Ron Teal, Phillip Babbitt, Gabe Gonzalez-Kidd and Cody Wong all reaching the finals before finishing as league runner-up.
The Heritage girls added three more runner-up finishes, as Ramiah Howard, Gianelin Trejo and Brooklyn Tuttle all finished second in their weight classes.
