 CROSS COUNTRY
A strong performance at the BVAL Championships from Michael Simpson led the way for the Heritage boys’ cross country team, which dominated both the dual meet portion of the season and the league championships race, beating second-place Liberty by 10 points to ensure an outright title for the Patriots. It was the ninth overall team title for the Heritage boys, and their third title in the last four seasons.
Simpson won the boys’ league championship race by a whopping 43 seconds, and was joined in the top four by sophomore Brady Lockrem and freshman Aadit Nair. Junior Tameem Sarwari added a 13th-place finish for the Patriots. Simpson would then go on to post a top-25 finish at the North Coast Section Championships.
The Heritage girls narrowly missed their own sweep of regular season and championship titles, but ended up sharing the overall title with Liberty after the Lions finished three points in front at the league championship race, after the Patriots won the dual meet between the programs. Junior
Kylie Wisely, freshman Brynn Faulkner and junior Samantha Buttitta all finished in the top four at the BVAL Championships, while junior Elliana Alderete, sophomore Isabella Rinaldo and freshman Mylee McElmurry all notched top-15 finishes.
The overall season for the girls was also highlighted by a pair of top-six team finishes at the Ed Sias Invitational and the Tom Laythe Invitational, to go with a top-10 team finish at the NCS Championships, where Faulkner finished in the top 25 as an individual.
