against No. 3 Oklahoma State. Trailing 7-6 with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, a Blayne Jones two-run homer lifted the Patriots to a walk-off win over the Cowboys. DBU also routed an Oklahoma Sooners team 10-1 on May 3rd. The Sooners would eventually reach the finals of the College World Series and finished the year ranked No. 2 in the nation.
At season’s end, Luke Heefner was named both a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. Eight Patriots were also selected to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Team headlined by First Team selections Chandler Arnold, Cole Moore, and Ryan Wrobleski.
Second Team selections included Jace Grady, Luke Heefner, and Miguel Santos, while both Nathan Humphreys and Cole Moore were tabbed to the MVC All- Defensive Team.
Following the 2022 season, three players from DBU were selected in the Major League Draft including Jacob Meador (12th round - Los Angeles Dodgers), Chandler Arnold (13th round - St. Louis Cardinals), and Ryan Wrobleski (20th round - Houston Astros).
Blayne Jones’ walk-off home run against Oklahoma State was one of his 36 home runs during his career as a Patriot. Jones finished his career with the sixth-most home runs in DBU Baseball’s Division I era.
