     Tyler Malone
   DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT
Malone played at Oregon State University from 2017-2019 under Head Coach Pat Casey. In 2017, he was part of an Oregon State team that set numerous school and conference records, including the most wins in a single season (56- 6). In 2018, the Beavers would go on to win the College World Series, and Malone was included on the All-Tournament team after hitting .304 with
three home runs and eight runs batted in over OSU’s eight games in Omaha.
In 2019, Malone was drafted by the San Diego Padres and experienced all minor league levels up to Triple-A as a catcher, outfielder, and first baseman. In 2023 he decided to pursue his coaching career helping with the development of PXF Athletics in Arizona, while also being part of Nelson University’s 2024 inaugural season under Head Coach Josh Milner.
Prior to joining the DBU staff, Malone served as an assistant coach for the Lincoln Potters, a member of the Pacific Empire League in the summer of 2024, working with collegiate players from some of the top programs throughout the country. Now at DBU, Malone works with the development of the players in hopes of furthering his knowledge alongside some of the greatest and well-respected coaches in college baseball.
Malone graduated with a Bachelor of Science History degree and a leadership minor in 2020 from Oregon State University and is currently working on a Master of Leadership degree from DBU. A native of Roseville, California, Malone currently resides in Dallas, Texas, and attends Northway Church.
 Matthew Rowell
DIRECTOR OF BASEBALL OPERATIONS
Matthew Rowell took over as the Director of Baseball Operations for the DBU Baseball program in the fall of 2019 after spending the previous two seasons as the Patriots’ student manager. The 2025 season will be Rowell’s eighth year on the DBU Baseball staff, as he oversees day-to-day operations for the entire department including team travel, nutrition, team equipment, official visits, game day operations, and the annual fundraising golf tournament.
As Director of Operations, Rowell has seen 33 players drafted from DBU since 2018, including seven selected in the top five rounds in Jameson Hannah, Burl Carraway, Jimmy Glowenke, Dominic Hamel, Jackson Glenn, Ryan Johnson, and Jaron DeBerry.
He and his wife Kaci live in Dallas and attend Northway Church.
    Tyler Shipley
DIRECTOR OF PITCHING DEVELOPMENT
Tyler Shipley is in his first season as DBU’s Director of Pitching Development. Shipley came to DBU from the University of Evansville, where he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons as the Pitching Coach. During his time at Evansville, Shipley helped lead a Purple Aces team that won the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Championship and Greenville Regional before falling one game short of reaching the College World Series at the Knoxville Super Regional. Under Shipley’s direction,
Evansville produced four All-MVC selections on the mound, an MVC Freshman of the Year, an All-Region performer, and a Freshman All-American.
Before Evansville, Shipley spent the 2022 season as the Pitching Coach at Eastern Illinois University, helping guide the Panthers to a 33-20 record. Shipley’s staff finished the 2022 season ranked nationally in five statistical categories, led the Ohio Valley Conference in numerous categories, and produced a pair of All- Conference selections. Shipley also helped to develop Hayden Birdsong, a sixth- round selection of the San Francisco Giants in the 2022 Major League Baseball Draft.
Prior to his stint at Eastern Illinois, Shipley was the Director of Pitching and Player Development at Oral Roberts University from 2019-21. With the Golden Eagles, Shipley coached the pitching staff and aided their development, producing 13 All-Conference selections, including four All-Conference pitching selections, the Conference Pitcher of the Year, and produced multiple Major League Baseball draft picks.
Before his time at ORU, Shipley made stops at Ecclesia College (2014-15), Concordia University Chicago (2015-17), Wheaton College (2017-18), and Dayton University (2018-19).
Shipley has also worked with USA Baseball, the Rawlings Arkansas Prospects, and Cangelosi Sparks Travel organizations, as well as serving as an instructor at Bo Jackson Elite Sports in the Chicago area. During that time, he coached over 130 players who went on to play collegiate and/or professional baseball.
Shipley played at Drury University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and Sports Management. He later earned his Master’s Degree in Leadership in Sport at Concordia University-Chicago.
   Alex Pendergast
 DIRECTOR OF HITTING DEVELOPMENT
Alex Pendergast is in his first season on the DBU Baseball coaching staff and serves as the team’s Director of Hitting Development after playing for the Patriots the past two seasons. During those two years, Pendergast played primarily in the corner outfield and was part of two 45-win teams that both reached the NCAA Regionals. He was also part of a DBU team that won the Conference
USA regular season title in 2023 and clinched the Conference USA Tournament Championship in 2024, where he was named the Most Valuable Player after hitting .562 in the CUSA Tournament.
Before coming to DBU, Pendergast played two seasons at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. During those two years, Kirkwood won its regular-season conference title, conference tournament title, and district title, which led to Kirkwood reaching the NJCAA Division II World Series in back-to-back seasons.
Pendergast grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, where he attended Theodore Roosevelt High School. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management at Dallas Baptist University.
