Kodie Kolden is in his first season as an Assistant Coach on the DBU Baseball coaching staff after spending last year as the Patriots’ Director of Player Development and Infield Coordinator. In his first year on staff, DBU won the Conference USA Tournament and were the No. 2 seed at the Tucson Regional. Kolden, who was the Patriots’ starting third baseman in 2023, helped guide a defense that ranked fourth nationally in fielding percentage (.982) and led college baseball with 56 double
In addition to his on-field success, Kolden was also recognized for his academic excellence, being named one of 11 players to the Conference USA All-Academic Team in 2023.
Before arriving at DBU for his final season, Kolden played his first four years at Washington State. As a sophomore in 2021, he was named a semifinalist for the prestigious Brooks Wallace Award, which recognizes the nation’s top shortstop. Over his four seasons at Washington State, Kolden made 143 starts and posted a 29-game on-base streak, which ranks as the ninth-longest in school history.
Kolden earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science from Washington State University and completed a Master’s of Sports Management at DBU.
Kolden capped off his playing career at DBU in 2023 after transferring from Washington State. In his lone season with the Patriots, Kolden was a cornerstone in the DBU lineup, playing a pivotal role for a team that won a school-record 47 games and finished the year ranked
No. 20 in the nation by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Kolden garnered Second Team All-Conference USA honors after leading the Patriots in hitting with a .353 batting average and was second on the team in stolen bases (21). As one of the nation’s top defensive third basemen, Kolden committed only five errors in 105 chances at the hot corner.
Kolden was an integral part of the Patriots’ historic 2023 season, which included a Conference USA regular season title in their inaugural year in the league. The Patriots advanced to the Stillwater Regional as the No. 2 seed, where Kolden earned a spot on the Stillwater Regional All-Tournament Team after hitting .470 (8-for-15) with two home runs in the team’s run to the regional final.
