For the second time since DBU joined the Missouri Valley Conference in 2014, DBU Head Coach Dan Heefner was named the MVC Dan Callahan Coach of the Year. Heefner guided the Patriots to both the

MVC regular-season and tournament titles and also a Fort Worth Regional Championship. In the process, Heefner won his 500th career game when the Patriots defeated Valparaiso on April 1, 2021.
