     20 NORTH ALLEGHENY ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT
   GIRL’S
 WRESTLING
It was another strong season for the 2023-2024 North Allegheny girls wrestling team. As girls wrestling has increased in participation, many high schools in the state of Pennsylvania have started to form teams. There are now 111 girls wrestling teams in PA, which is up 80% from last year, and the PIAA now recognizes Girls Wrestling as a sanctioned sport. North Allegheny was one of the first teams to be recognized by the school district as an official sport and head coach Dan Heckert has been a big part of growing girls wrestling in the area.
The Tigers kicked off their season off with two impressive showings at the Butler Tournament and the Elizabethtown Invitational as they won the Butler Tournament team title and came in 8th place at Elizabethtown.
North Allegheny would go 8-1 in dual matches on the season with their lone loss coming to Can- on-McMillan. The Tigers also competed in the Lady Raiders Wrestling Invitational where they came in 6th place, and hosted the NA Invitational where they finished in second place.
Individually, Leyna Rumpler competed in the first ever PIAA sanctioned state championship where she won her 100th match and ended up finishing with a silver medal, after losing a very tough 1-0 championship match.
