State Runner-Up | WPIAL Champions
After winning their first WPIAL Championship since 2012 and making the state quarterfinals in 2022, the Tigers were poised with a number of returning players to make a run at the WPIAL Champion- ship again and were looking to make it deeper into the state playoffs.
The 2023 North Allegheny football team successfully defended their WPIAL title and made it all the way to the state championship before falling in the contest.
The season got off to a great start as the Tigers sprinted out to a 4-0 record. They were tripped up by the Central Catholic Vikings in the fifth game of the year by a score of 50-22 but would roll through the rest of the regular season with the closest margin of victory all season being 19 points.
In the WPIAL playoffs, North Allegheny made quick work of Canon-McMillan by a score of 49-7 in the WPIAL Semifinals
and then the Tigers would get their revenge on Central Catholic in the WPIAL Championship game, defeating them 44-41 in an instant classic. It was the second straight year that North Allegheny defeated Central Catholic in the WPIAL Championship.
In the state quarterfinals the Tigers would beat McDowell much more handily than they did in the regular season leaving no doubt this time with a 41-7 win. It had been a while since North Allegheny was in the state semifinals but you couldn’t tell, as the Tigers jumped out to an early lead against Harrisburg and hung on in the second half for a 24-12 win. The magical run would come to an end in the state champi- onship where the Tigers met the #7 team in the country in St. Joseph’s Prep. North Allegheny battled but St. Joe’s was just too much for the Tigers, defeating them 45-23.
