WPIAL Runner-Up | PIAA Semifinalists
The North Allegheny girls soccer team came into the 2023 season as the defend- ing WPIAL champions along with being state quarterfinalists. The goals stayed the same and even though the Tigers were not able to repeat at the WPIAL level, they did make it further into the state tournament in 2023.
It was a dominant regular season for the Tigers, with the highlight stretch coming from September 18 to October 4 where North Alleghe- ny went 6-0-0 and outscored opponents 26-0. The Tigers only allowed 6 goals in section play with Fox Chapel scoring 5 of them.
The WPIAL playoffs for North Allegheny had fan’s hearts racing as all 3 WPIAL matchups went longer than 80 minutes. The Tigers
defeated Mt. Lebanon in penalty kicks in the quarterfinals, took down Canon-McMillan in overtime in the semifinals before falling to Fox Chapel in overtime in the WPIAL Championship.
In the state playoffs North Allegheny would make quick work of Altoona in the state first round winning 4-2. The Tigers pulled off a huge upset in the state quarterfinals where they conquered Central Dauphin, 3-2. At the time, Central Dauphin was ranked the top team in the country according to SoccerWire. The magical run would come to an end when North Allegheny was upended by Conestoga 2-0 in the state semifinals at Chambersburg High School.
