2023 WPIAL Quarterfinalists
The North Allegheny girls’ lacrosse team earned another postseason bid in 2023 as the Ti- gers have now reached the play- offs each of the last four seasons. A coaching change didn’t stop momentum as Courtney Killian took over the program led the Tigers back to the postseason.
The Tigers had a plethora of players earn postseason laurels for their efforts on the field. Senior Leigh Failla and junior Isla Abrams both received first-team all-section honors. Junior Izzie Trunzo and
senior Becka Oates were named second-team all-section players. Failla was the team leader in scoring with 45 goals and was a unanimous first-team selection. She also received the Jackie Pitts Award from USA Lacrosse which is given to one WPIAL player each season who goes above and beyond in service to their team, school and community.
NA started the season hot, but cooled off down the stretch leading to a fifth-place finish in the section. As the No. 9 seed, the Tigers upended No. 8 Peters Township thanks to a four-goal performance by senior Mila Prusak, which included a game-winning marker 1:10 into overtime for a 9-8 victory. NA’s season came to an end with a quarterfi- nal round loss to eventual WPIAL champion Pine-Richland.
