2023 WPIAL Finalists
Coach Dan Long’s first season as the North Allegheny Boys Volley- ball head coach saw the Tigers return to the WPIAL Championship game for a sixth consecutive season and another trip to the state playoffs.
Things started a little slow, which can beexpected with a new head coach as North Allegheny started the regular season with a 1-2 record. NA rebounded By earning a co-championship of the NA Invitational and runner-up at the Derry Invitational.
North Allegheny got back to their winning ways by taking eight of the next nine matches including a title at the State College Invitational in that span.
The Tigers took care of Seneca Valley and Penn-Trafford in four sets in the WPIAL playoffs before falling to Shaler in the WPIAL Champi- onship match.
North Allegheny’s season would end in the PIAA First Round where they lost to Central York in a five-set thriller.
Individually, the Tigers top performer was senior outside hitter Jax Wilhite, who concluded the season with a team-high 384 kills. He also had a hitting percentage of .329 with 170 digs and 33 blocks. Wilhite was named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s All-Area Team and was tabbed first-team All-State by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches As- sociation. Teammates Varun Kaveti, a senior middle hitter, and junior setter Nicolas Carioto, both earned PVCA All-State honorable mention laurels.
