VOLLEYBALL
A senior-laden Heritage boys volleyball team made it a spring to remember for the Patriots, winning the third league title in program history before eventually finishing with the second-most wins and second NCS semifinal appearance for the program.
Following a runner-up finish at the East County Invitational early in the season, Heritage went on a 17-match win streak, a run which included a tournament title at the Stockton Classic and a four-set win over Liberty during the first trip through league play. The streak included wins over three eventual Sac-Joaquin Section quarterfinalists - Sierra, Manteca and Ripon Christian - before ending against Amador Valley in the semifinals of the Foothill Invitational. Though Liberty evened the BVAL score against the Patriots in their second meeting to conclude the regular season, the overall resume was good enough to ensure a top-four seed in the NCS Division 1 playoffs.
Heritage took full advantage of being able to play at home in the first two rounds of the section playoffs, sweeping Pittsburg for the third time before fac- ing James Logan in a rematch of the previous season’s first-round game. Having lost a heartbreaker in five sets to the Colts the year before, the Patriots made sure there was no drama this time around, sweeping James Logan in three sets to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2019. And though Heritage would lose in the semifinals to top-seed and eventual champion Foothill, it did little to diminish the accomplishments of a 27-win team which had asserted itself as one of the best in the region.
