The DBU Patriots achieved remarkable success in 2024, securing 45 wins and capturing their first-ever Conference USA Tournament title in just their second season in the league. This victory in the CUSA Championship earned DBU the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, marking the team’s 10th consecutive postseason appearance. As the No. 2 seed at the Tucson Regional, the Patriots became one of just five teams in the nation to reach the NCAA Tournament each of the last 10 years.
The Patriots opened the 2024 season on a nine-game win streak, matching the 1987 team for the best start to a season. Facing a field that included Arizona and a pair of nationally ranked teams in No. 19 Indiana and No. 15 Alabama, DBU won the Frisco Classic. The Patriots’ dramatic 7-5 win in 12 innings over the Crimson Tide clinched the title in one of the nation’s premier tournaments at the beginning of the season. By the first week of April, DBU had reached as high as No. 7 in the national polls, marking their first-ever consensus top-10 ranking in all four major polls. The Patriots finished the regular season with a stellar 17-7 record in Conference USA play, just one game behind first-place Louisiana Tech, setting up a deep postseason run.
DBU won the 2024 Frisco Classic with Ryan Johnson was a consensus All-American and wins over Arizona and Alabama. became DBU’s all-time strikeout leader in 2024.
