NCAA Rule Changes for Uniforms & Equipment

The NCAA has announced new restrictions on uniforms and player dress code specifics starting with the 2018 college football season. The changes prevent alterations of the jersey, and promote proper wearing of equipment and base layer apparel to ensure player safety. Players are no longer allowed to wear their jersey above the stomach, and jerseys must cover the waist — while backplates used to protect the spine area must be covered as well. Previously, many skill players have rolled their jersey over the top of an exposed back plate for improved flexibility and flow of movement. Now, this would violate the new equipment code.  Also, an untucked undershirt or base layer performance protruding from the uniform are prohibited.

Another key rule change directed toward player safety is the NCAA's new rule on wearing knee pads; they must now stretch below the knee, which could make change of direction difficult for some.
