Student/Alum Spotlight: Michael Vesci

Michael Vesci, MS ‘22, joined the UMass Boston Athletics Department in August of 2022 as a Sports Information Assistant. In his role, he oversees and executes the Beacons Broadcast Network which streams over 100 webcasts of 10 different Division III varsity sports at UMass Boston in addition to hiring new broadcasting talents for the BBN.

Vesci also assists in running social media and video content creation for the athletic department as well as serving as the media contact for six of UMass Boston's Division III teams.

No stranger to the Little East Conference, Vesci spent the past year as the part-time Sports Information University Assistant at Eastern Connecticut State University under Sports Information veteran Bob Molta after working as a student worker in the department for two years.

The Manchester, Connecticut native was tasked with overseeing the ETV Sports Internship Program, training student workers to execute sports information-related duties at home athletic events, press releases, creating new graphic designs, and served as the primary contact for the 2022 Division III National Champion Eastern Baseball team during their spring trip to Fort Myers, Florida.

Vesci graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University in December 2020 with a degree in Sports Management as well as minors in Business Administration and Communications. While returning to assist Eastern Athletics during spring 2021, in which 16 of 17 varsity sports played, Vesci began his master’s degree in Sports Management at Southern Connecticut State University which he completed in July 2022.

Additionally, Vesci served as the Official Scorer for the then-Atlantic League and current Futures Collegiate Baseball League New Britain Bees organization, a position he held for the past six seasons since 2017 when he was only 17 years old. He credits the connections he made during his time in New Britain for being the reason he discovered the Sports Information profession. Between his time with the Bees and Eastern, Vesci has scored over 300 baseball and softball games, including a five-inning no-hitter for Eastern Softball during the 2021 season.

From 2019-2022, Vesci spent time with the Colorado Rockies Double-A Affiliate Hartford Yard Goats organization in numerous capacities. Starting as an event operations worker, he quickly moved into the organization’s Senior Associate program in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic cut his experience short. He returned in May 2021 to assist in Team Store Operations while a full-time replacement search was underway.

In his spare time, Vesci was a head coach for Parks and Recreation Basketball in Newington, Connecticut for five seasons in which he coached six different teams at the fifth through eighth grade levels and is also an avid runner. He aspires to complete the six World Major Marathons and has his sights set on the New York City Marathon in 2022 as his first one after failing to complete it due to injury in 2019.
