2022-2023 PIHL Semifinalists
A perennial chal- lenger for the Penguins Cup crown in Class 3A, the North Allegheny ice hockey team once again put together a stellar season enroute to a PIHL semifinal appearance.
The Tigers had a new head coach in the form of Andrew Siess. However, the long-time assistant under NA Hall of Fame coach, Mike Bagnato, helped the team pick up right where it left off a year ago, winning five of its first six games.
After a tough stretch in the second half of the season, the Tigers finished the regular season strong by winning three of their final four
games. NA wrapped up the regular season with a 12-5-3 record, which was good for fourth place in Class AAA.
Owning the No. 4 seed allowed North Allegheny to host a quarterfi- nal matchup against fifth-seeded Cathedral Prep, a team they had split with in the regular season. In the rubber match, NA was dominant, posting a 3-0 shutout over the Ramblers.
The Tigers were upended by eventual Penguins Cup champion and state runner-up, Peters Township, in the PIHL semifinals.
Highlighting NA’s individual award winners was senior defenseman, Trey Gallo, who was named the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Player of the Year.
A three-time PIHL Class AAA All-Star, Gallo was the North Al- legheny captain and team leader in points (31), finishing with 13 goals and 18 assists in the regular season. For his career, Gallo surpassed the 100-point milestone with 107 points, including 43 goals and 64 assists.
