 2020 SEASON IN REVIEW
Hamel would earn the win after Burl Carraway came out of the pen to shutout the Tar Heels the rest of the way. The victory handed DBU the deciding game in a key series win over UNC on the road.
Hamel’s performance in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, made him the third pitcher in school history to receive National Pitcher of the Week honors as he joined Patriot legends Colin Poche and MD Johnson on that distinguished list.
Carraway & Glowenke Selected in MLB Draft
In a year that saw Major League Baseball condense their draft from 40 rounds down to five, DBU’s Burl Carraway and Jimmy Glowenke were each selected in the second round. DBU would be one of only 25 programs from across the nation to have multiple players drafted in 2020.
Glowenke, who started every game at shortstop during his first two years at DBU, was taken by the San Francisco Giants with the 68th overall selection. Glowenke was the team’s designated hitter in 2020 after battling an injury that sidelined him for the first three games of the season and finished the year with a team-best .415 batting average in 53 at-bats. During his two- plus years at DBU, Glowenke was a consensus Freshman All-American in 2018, was a two-time All-MVC selection, and finished his career as a .340 hitter.

 BURL CARRAWAY
Carraway, a left-handed pitcher who totaled 11 saves during his three-year career at DBU, became the third highest draft pick in school history when he was selected by the Chicago Cubs with the 51st overall pick. Carraway was widely considered one of the top prospects in college baseball after pitching for the U.S. Collegiate National Team in the summer of 2019 and featured one of the most electric arms in the draft. In 2020, Carraway’s fastball topped out at 100 miles per hour, while also featuring a sharp curveball that left hitters baffled.
