 ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE/ TRAINERS
   Al Spencer begins his third year at Dallas Baptist University serving as an Assistant Athletic Performance Coach, and fifth year at DBU under Director of Athletic Performance Dave Trevino. Spencer graduated from DBU with a Master of Science in Kinesiology in August 2017. Spencer is currently working to earn his Doctorate in Education from the Gary Cook School of Leadership with a concentration in Higher Education.
Coach Al serves as the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach for Men’s Soccer, Women’s Golf, and Women’s Tennis. He also assists Coach Adam Ross with
Baseball. In addition to his role in Athletic Performance, Spencer also serves the DBU Ice Hockey team in an operations role.
Spencer served as a Graduate Student Assistant for two years under Coach David Trevino prior to being named the Assistant Athletic Performance Coach in April, 2018. During his time in the Graduate Student Assistant role, Spencer worked as the Performance Coach for Men’s Soccer, Women’s Golf, and Women’s Tennis. He also assisted Coach Trevino with Men’s Basketball.
Prior to his arrival at DBU, Spencer served as an Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Baylor University with the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams during the 2015-2016 season. While at Baylor, Spencer assisted with implementation and execution of daily warm-ups, workouts and operation/management of the basketball only weight room at the Ferrell Center. Spencer also developed databases for each team to help track progress, guide programming, and analyze performance outcomes. Before receiving the Assistant position with Baylor Basketball, Spencer served as their Strength Intern for the Spring semester of 2015.
Spencer received his Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Human Performance, & Recreation from Baylor University in 2015. He is currently a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA - CSCS). Spencer also holds the Strength & Conditioning Coach Certification from the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa - SCCC).
Al lives in Mansfield with his wife Shawna. They spend much of their free time hiking, backpacking, and camping with their dog Charlie.
DBU Sports Medicine enters its 15th year under the guidance of Director of Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer Chris Weeldreyer. Weeldreyer is a 2004 DBU graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and served on the Sports Medicine staff for three years as a student assistant.
In 2006, he received a Master of Science in Athletic Training from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. While at Tech, Weeldreyer gained sports medicine experience working with high schools, NAIA and NCAA Division I collegiate athletics, and by serving an
internship in minor league baseball. Weeldreyer is an active member in National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association (SWATA) and the Texas State Athletic Training Association (TSATA). He also has certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES), Functional Movement Screen Certified (FMSC), and is a certified L-1 Dry Needling provider through Structure & Function.
Weeldreyer is entrusted with the day-to-day operations of the athletic training rooms, the care and prevention of athletic injuries, and the supervision of the Sports Medicine staff.
Weeldreyer and his wife, Melissa, and son Noah, live in Midlothian, Texas, and are members of Stonegate Church in Midlothian.
