ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE
For the sixth consecutive year, the DBU Men’s Basketball team has been awarded the Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Created by the NABC Committee on Academics, the award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2021-22 season.
In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA must count the grade point averages of all men’s student-athletes who competed during the 2020- 21 season.
With this year’s announcement, it marks the eighth time in the last 10 years that DBU has been awarded by the NABC.
“I am so proud of our team and the work they did in the classroom again this year,” DBU Head Basketball Coach Blake Flickner said following the NABC’s announcement. “This is such a prestigious award from the NABC, and to have received it now for six years in a row is quite the accomplishment. It speaks to the hard work our students have put in the classroom. It’s not easy to be a college athlete, with all of the travel and time commitments. However, the opportunity to receive a quality education at a place like Dallas Baptist University is too important to not maximize. Some athletes look for just the minimum to stay eligible, and others really want to learn and pursue excellence. That is why the Team Academic Excellence award means so much.”
